Inspire!

Pssst...you're being watched...

Who are your role models?

Many of us look up to parents, older siblings, friends we are close to. Others back the causes supported by celebrities. Even teachers at school or saints that we've discovered through research.

What do they have in common? They inspire us. They fuel us to be better people.  It is as if we shouldn't let them down.

On the flip side of this, who looks up to you?

Yes - YOU?

Believe it or not, there are people who do. How about your kids? Your brothers/sisters? Relatives? Friends? Your actions and beliefs inspire them.

Living as a Role Model

As you live your life, I would strongly suggest reflecting on your actions and core beliefs. People are watching. If your #1 goal was to inspire others, what you believe in and how you act should be your highest priority. If it is not, I would strongly suggest reflecting on those who you view as role models.

Likewise the people that have an interest in your development are also watching. While they are proud of you, they have an interest in seeing the very best out of you.

Using Passion to Inspire

In an adjoining chapter, I expand upon the pillar "Passion". Having a passion that is altruistic, that serves others is a way to inspire others to do the same. If you are reflecting on actions and beliefs that make you who you are, having a passion to strive for helps that formulation.

Inspiration can be seen in various ways. Coaches of athletic teams are known to create a "pep talk" prior to a game. This can be used to bring the best out of the team at the start of game time. Many players have cited that they would be willing to "run through a wall" for a coach who inspires them.

The right managers at work inspire their employees to put in the extra effort. I've seen great managers start a "huddle" (similar to a sports huddle) to discuss daily goals and challenges in the workplace. This set the team back in focus of what the goals are at that point in time.

What are you doing to inspire those around you?
